Robert Vogel, MD, JD practices full-time as an ophthalmologist specializing in diseases of the retina and part-time as an attorney at law. His position at Osterbind Law is “Of Counsel” whereby he is available for consultation, preparation, and management of particular cases. As a physician, Robert is interested in assisting those suffering from health issues. As an attorney, he is interested in securing justice, through the legal system, to all individuals regardless of their social status, financial position, or ethnicity.
Robert completed his bachelor’s degree in Biology and Fine Arts History at Brandeis University, a master’s degree in exercise physiology at the University of Florida, a medical degree at the University of Miami, an ophthalmology residency at the University of Virginia, and a fellowship in retina surgery at the University of Texas. He was at the top of his medical school class at UM and Intern of the Year and Chief Resident at UVA. While receiving his medical education, Robert worked in emergency rooms in Miami and Houston where he gained experience in treating a vast array of illnesses and injuries.
Born in Queens, NY, Robert has made Lynchburg, VA his home since 1994 when he joined Dr. Remo Lotano at Piedmont Eye Center. Together, they formed a multi-specialty eye clinic that has over one hundred employees, including eight physicians who treat patients with various diseases of the eye and specialize in surgeries for cataracts, glaucoma, cornea, retina, and vitreous.
Always fascinated by the law, and interested in discussing cases with his wife Lisa, who graduated from Washington and Lee University of Law and practices family law in Lynchburg, in 2010 Robert enrolled at Liberty University School of Law. He graduated at the top of his class, received the “Spirit of Liberty” award, and spoke at his graduation ceremony. During law school he participated in Law Review, was a member of the moot court team, was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Student Bar Association, won 2nd place at the ABA regionals in client counseling, and 2nd place in negotiation team internal competition.
In addition, Robert completed one year as a resident student at the University of Virginia School of Law in order to take advantage of the variety of health law classes offered by UVA. He went on to teach health law classes at Liberty Law and currently teaches medical/legal ethics at Liberty University College of Medicine. He enjoys working with medical students and oversees a student internship program at Piedmont Eye Center.
Robert enjoys brainstorming with Brandon on a variety of legal issues and is proud to be of assistance to the Osterbind Law team on cases for which he is specifically qualified.
