This receptionist job in Lynchburg, Virginia is open because we are a growing business. We are promoting our current receptionist to a new position in our office.
Status: Full-time
Pay: Salary based on $15-17 per hour (depending on experience and skills)
Receptionist Job Summary:
This position would be the firm’s first point of contact for anyone contacting Osterbind Law.
It is one of the most important roles at our firm. We want everyone to know that they are valued and respected and that we know what we are doing. The person answering the phone either makes or breaks that reality. This job also requires you to provide assistance periodically to friendly, but focused attorneys.
This job is responsible for answering all incoming phone calls, scanning and filing all incoming mail. Computer competency is an essential skill for this position.
The receptionist receives all incoming information and is responsible for filing and distributing to the appropriate person in a timely fashion. This job is of critical importance to the success of our clients. Our attorneys cannot respond quickly to incoming information unless that information is quickly distributed to them.
This position is certainly not for everyone. It will be the “perfect” fit for someone, though.
That someone must be happy, kind, and competent.
That someone will thrive on the busy pace and can manage a range of tasks from a variety of sources. Importantly, that someone is punctual, disciplined, and dependable. We are looking for a hard worker, who can work well under deadlines with a quick response time.

Work Activities:
Completing Administrative Tasks:
- Scanning documents
- Creating electronic documents
- Organizing electronic documents
- Filing electronic documents and occasionally physical documents
- Processing incoming mail
- Processing outgoing mail
- Keeping cases updated with new information as it comes in from snailmail, facsimile, or email.
Active Learning:
- Attending occasional conferences and seminars, either in person or virtual
- Reading various books on teamwork and business
- Monthly meetings
- Quarterly Reviews
Operate the main telephone
- Answering incoming calls
- Taking messages
- Responding to voicemails
- Logging voicemails and phone calls
Transferring information and documents
- Giving information from incoming calls to the attorneys, case managers, and paralegals
- Sharing documents with clients
Scheduling appointments and updating calendar
- Scheduling appointments for return phone calls, etc.
- Updating appointments with new information

- Electronic Case File Management: including scanning, creating electronic documents and organizing electronic documents

Job Context:
Osterbind Law, PLLC is a growing, family-run law firm in Lynchburg, Virginia that specializes in injury and ERISA disability law. The environment is fast-paced and offers a comfortable and collaborative work environment as well as competitive compensation. The hours will be 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday (business hours) with one hour provided for lunch.
Work Performance:
Performance in this position will be evaluated by Julia Hinckle and Brandon Osterbind, Esq. Performance will be evaluated on the following:
