Osterbind Law opened in June 2017 as a family law firm dedicated to the idea that we help people who have been injured through no fault of their own. We also help people who find themselves in a legal battle over money or other civil matters. Brandon and Kelly Osterbind, husband and wife, started the law firm together and work together on cases.
The story behind this firm starts with Brandon’s childhood and his work as a teenager. “I guess you can say that I’ve always known that I wanted to work for myself and help everyday people.”
In fact, Brandon started working as a part time receptionist at a small law firm when he was in high school in the late 90s early 2000s. Brandon was fortunate that the lawyers there taught him the essentials of the real-life practice of law while he worked during high school, college, and law school.
Brandon fondly remembers countless conversations with his Dad about his dreams during his formative years. Now, Brandon’s Dad was in sales and he didn’t have any advanced education, but he had an entrepreneurial idea about every five seconds. Brandon’s Dad was the master of creating something out of nothing, starting only with the back of a Wendy’s napkin. What Brandon came to learn over the last eight years since we lost him to a heart attack, is that he is more like his Dad that he ever knew. Brandon’s Dad always encouraged him to get a law degree so that he could work for himself.
Since law school, Brandon clerked for Judge Petty on the Court of Appeals of Virginia, and, after his term concluded, he joined Overbey, Hawkins & Wright as an associate. After two years of hard work, they made him a partner in 2012. Brandon said “I am sincerely grateful for the opportunities afforded to me and for those who invested in me. I am who I am today, in part, because of them.” But he has never worked for himself like he and his Dad dreamed about.
Brandon’s Dad planted that entrepreneurial seed many, many years ago and it has been growing for some time. While he has enjoyed his time at Overbey, Hawkins & Wright and they have taught him a great deal, it became time to harvest that crop of entrepreneurship and take a leap of faith.
Brandon and Kelly met in law school and got married in 2008. Their career paths were very different but each path has led to the same place. Kelly spent many years as a prosecutor here in Central Virginia. She is a trial lawyer who has extensive experience in handling cases and preparing witnesses for trial. She has prosecuted everything from traffic offenses to violent felonies. Kelly has also been an adjunct professor for Liberty University Helms School of Government and Liberty University School of Law teaching law students how to practice law. Kelly will help prepare personal injury cases for trial.
Together, Kelly and Brandon are committed to helping the people of the greater Lynchburg area recover from trauma and litigate disputes
What is Next?
Just like everything in our culture, the practice of law is changing rapidly. Clients expect different methods when it comes to purchasing legal services. You expect efficiency in case management, proficiency in the delivery of legal services, and constant communication and delivery of that information. And just like Brandon’s Dad, we find ourselves having new ideas about these things every five seconds.
Over the last couple years, Brandon has been working, researching, and experimenting with some of my ideas to create new processes and systems in my every day practice so that he can better deliver legal services to clients. What we hope you see in our new firm is that we are more efficient, more proficient, and more informative than ever before. These ideas that we are talking about cannot exist in a vacuum. It is an entirely new way of delivering legal information and performing legal services that we hope will blow you away. By starting our new firm, we will have a bit more freedom to implement these ideas and deliver them to the marketplace.
